Description of Practice:
I have over 20 years therapeutic experience in community settings and private practice working with adults and adolescents who have experienced a wide array of relationship issues as well as work and school related difficulties. My approach is informed by attachment theory and research, relational psychoanalysis, the literature on bereavement, trauma, affect regulation, reflective functioning and developmental neurobiology. My extensive clinical experience includes working with traumatic loss and abuse, depression, anxiety disorders and other mental health problems.

I have facilitated continuing education trainings on attachment and trauma for counselors, social workers, therapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and physicians. I am available for consultation and supervision for professionals and students. I am the author of Shrink Rap on the Air, Mentalizing in the Last Frontier, scheduled for publication in 2012 by Psychoanalytic Dialogues, an international journal.

My relational style is rooted in empathy and I enjoy supporting the growth of one's ability to mentalize, that is, to "think about thinking" or to "know one's own mind." The capacity to be reflective vs. reactive is essential in dealing with emotional and physical pain. I have strong belief that the therapy process can reverse cycles of hopelessness/fear/depression in to hope/empowerment/change.
