Description of Practice:
John Prata was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but came to Oregon to attend the School of Physician Assistant Studies at Pacific University in Forest Grove. Before this, he worked in a Neurosurgery practice as a medical assistant. His experiences with patients there and the compassion and breadth of knowledge he witnessed among the medical team inspired him to become a physician assistant.
While still attending school, John decided he wanted to practice in Oregon. One of the original intentions in the development of the physician assistant profession was to have health care providers that could serve the medically underserved populations in rural areas. John hoped to be able to continue that tradition by working in a non-profit health clinic. John says one of the things that drew him to the Rinehart clinic was spending the day with Dr. Rinehart and his enthusiastic staff.
John has a brother back in Rhode Island who is a firefighter and a sister who is a Peace Corp volunteer in the African country of Guinea. He enjoys hiking and sea kayaking and is looking forward to being part of the Wheeler community.
