Description of Practice:
The initial visit at our office is offered as a courtesy to patients who have been referred by other practitioners. It includes three components: (1) Education about acupuncture and how it works. (2) A comprehensive health history, with a focus on physical trauma, emotional stress, and chemical exposure that may have contributed to the patient's presenting complaint. (3) Recommendations for car.
On the second visit we conduct an exam and deliver the patient's first acupuncture treatment. The exam includes range of motion evaluation, as well as traditional East Asian medicine assessments including pulse and palpation diagnosis.
I have used Japanese acupuncture techniques to treat chronic pain and illness since 1987. Japanese acupuncture is a minimalist style that uses smaller and fewer needles to treat underlying structural imbalances, chronic infections, and hormonal problems. Back and neck problems represent about a third of my practice. Joint problems and tendonitis are another third, followed by chronic conditions such as insomnia, depression, hypertension, headaches and IBS.
I offer presentations for community groups on natural treatment of fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, digestive problems, and headaches. I also offer in-service presentations for physicians and office staff on acupuncture.
